How was your Thanksgiving? I hope you ate lots of turkey, watched the Thanksgiving Day parade and got to spend time with family and friends. We had a great time doing all of those things and as a pre-Thanksgiving bonus, Abby and Maddy played with their violin group at the Metropolitan Ministries tent. Some of the local Suzuki violin groups come together to play while meals are being distributed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The girls get to enjoy playing violin with their friends and even though they don't realize it, I think it teaches them some great lessons. It gives them a reason to play the violin, by showing them that music can bring joy to others. It also gives us a chance to teach them a little more about the true meaning of being thankful. Especially as a child, it's hard to understand what it means to go without, when you don't have to. By participating in an event that gives back to people in need, we hope it helps them to understand how lucky they are. After all, if each of us lived every day with a spirit of thankfulness the world would be a much better place.
After our Thanksgiving fun, we started getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating our Christmas tree and putting lights up on the house. Both Kim and I love when the house is decorated for the Christmas season. Now if we could only get some cold weather to come our way, we'd really be ready. But I suppose we should just be thankful that we live in Florida, and that the weather is absolutely gorgeous. And there is some slightly cooler weather in the 10 day forecast, so maybe we'll have a cool start to December. Either way, it is a beautiful time to get outside and have a little fun in the garden. |

Brocade Geraniums Pelargonium x The brocade geraniums provide a lovely twist on a cool-season favorite. They have colorful leaves in addition to small red flowers and are gorgeous planted in a mass planting or used in container gardens as a fun accent. The variety pictured at right is called 'Mrs. Pollack' and the other varieties we currently have are 'Fire' and 'Cherry Night'. |

Growing Potatoes Now is the time of year to plant potatoes in Florida. Since our season for growing them isn't too long, short-season varieties are best, and our favorite is the classic red potatoes. Read more here about planting and caring for potatoes. | ||||||
