Abby feeding Jamie the rhino.

Here comes summer. Actually, even though the first day of summer is a month away, it feels like it is already here, doesn't it. Fortunately the chance of rain is increasing a little each day, so I'm sure we'll have our regular summer rains soon. I know my plants could use it.

Even though it has been wildly hot, we braved the heat last week and took the girls over to Lowry Park Zoo. We had a great time seeing all of the animals. The gibbons were whooping like crazy, the penguins were having fun jumping in and out of the water, but the most fun was feeding a rhino. We got to get up close and she took big kale leaves out of our hands (apparently you can get rather large eating kale - maybe it isn't the health food we think it is . . . ). And we got to pet her on the nose. The girls were excited about being so close to a huge animal.
The same spot at Lowry Park Zoo,
one generation and 28 years apart.

Afterwards, as we were walking around the zoo, taking pictures and enjoying the animals, my mother realized that she had a picture of me and my siblings at the same spot that we were taking a picture of Abby and Maddy. So for a little throw-back Thursday, I've put them together. I enjoyed the zoo as a kid and enjoy it even more watching my kids have fun. It's just another great way to get outdoors and connect with nature.

So do a little rain dance, and let's hope that the record heat passes us by so that we can get on with summer barbeques, afternoons in the pool and of course some fun in the garden.
