Spring is the Time,
Kerby's is the Place

May 16, 2013

It's almost time for crape myrtles to bloom. Plant yours now for lovely summer flowers.

It was a bit of a shock to walk outside this past Tuesday morning. Our thermometer said 50 degrees (yes - five - zero, that's not a typo), which should be pretty close to a record low for this time of year. It was chilly enough that I went inside to grab a sweater and then enjoyed walking around in my garden scouting tomato plants and pruning roses. The longer these cool mornings stick around, the better for all of us who love to garden. It's just so nice to be outside when it is crisp and cool.

Crape myrtles are on our minds right now, last week the newsletter highlighted the new Early Bird crape myrtles, which are really blooming nicely this week. All of the other cool varieties like Dynamite Red, Tuscarora Pink and Muskogee Lavender are just starting to bud, getting ready for their typical June show. Take advantage of the wonderful cool mornings to add a couple of beautiful crape myrtles to your landscape now. And this weekend only, use this exclusive e-news coupon to take 10% any crape myrtle.

Dynamite Red Crape Myrtle
Lagestroemia x

You've seen crape myrtles that are pink lavender and white, but you don't often see this beautiful crape myrtle. The dynamite is a true cherry red and is gorgeous when it is in full bloom. As the flowers emerge they start off white and then after a day, the red color fills the entire bloom.  The dynamite is a large crape myrtle, growing 10 to 20 feet tall, depending on how you prune it. It makes a beautiful landscape centerpiece.
