Discover the Fun of Gardening The Kerby's E-Newsletter for March 9, 2017 |
My mother recently sent me a really great gardening quote. "The gardener does not make the plant grow. The job of a gardener is to create optimal conditions." Actually, the quote wasn't really about gardening at all. It is from Sir Ken Robinson, who is a British author and speaker on education and creativity. He applies it to teaching creativity and innovation, saying that you can't teach a person creativity, but you can create conditions for creativity and innovation to grow. We've all had experiences with this. We've had teachers, bosses and friends who didn't create the conditions around us that encourage us to grow and thrive. Fortunately, we all also have people in our lives that do create those ideal conditions for us to become better people. Hopefully, those are the people we surround ourselves with.
