Discover the Fun of Gardening The Kerby's E-Newsletter for June 1, 2017 |
With the kids out of school for the summer, you are probably looking for some activities to entertain, engage, and of course tire them out. I can't think of anything better than getting out in the garden. The garden is such a great place for hands-on learning about the earth, about plants and about nature. Our girls have no lack of things to do in our garden, between feeding the chickens, picking mulberries and re-arranging their fairy gardens. But one of the things they love to do the most is to just put on their garden boots and head out on garden adventures in all corners of the yard. We aren't always sure exactly what they are doing. Sometimes it involves sticks, sometimes baseball bats and sometimes strange pieces of 'treasure' they find around the yard. It gives them a chance not just to experience nature, but also to let their imaginations run wild. Check out some of Kerby's favorite summer garden activities with a printable summer garden checklist It'll keep the kids busy all summer long and possibly you too!

Everbearing Mulberry Since the Summer Fruit Sale is starting, I've got to go with another fruit tree for this week's featured plant: the Everbearing Mulberry. Last summer, we planted one in our yard, and within a few months it started to bear fruit. Now, not even a year later, it has grown 6 feet and is loaded with tons of fruit. Enough for us and the birds to share. It is a quick-fruiting addition to any fruit forest. |
