It's not every day that a chicken coop makes you think of a James Bond movie. There is a line from the James Bond movie 'Casino Royale' that goes: 'There are dinner jackets and then there are dinner jackets; this is the latter. And I need you looking like a man who belongs at that table.' said by Vesper Lynd as Bond is preparing to enter a high stakes poker game. I've changed this quote to 'There are chicken coops and then there are chicken coops; this is the latter.' to describe our brand new chicken coop. I like to think of it as the Chicken Palace, or since Kim loves France 'Palais de Poulet'. The chickens are taking to it well (although they do call for room service each morning - I think their fancy home is going to their heads). After a few issues with the local critters, we now have a nice little backyard flock consisting of a Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte and Ameraucana. They are getting larger each day and pretty soon we'll be harvesting our own fresh eggs (I can already taste the omelette).
We've been spending some of that quiet morning time (Coffee with the Clucks is what my mom named it) dreaming about Fall Fun in the Garden, so check out the events page as we work on the schedule of events and workshops for the fall season. It will be here before we know it! |

Black Kow Manure This stuff is amazing. I always feel a little strange getting excited about poop, but every plant, tree or flower that I have planted with Black Kow has grown exceptionally well. The way I use it is to throw a big handful of it in each planting hole and mix it in well with our Kerby's Planting Soil and the native soil. It gives a natural fertilizer boost that really encourages new plants to root and to grow. Use a little on your new or established plants and you'll be even happier with your garden. |
