Garden Resolutions  |   New Arrivals   |   Now Hiring

How many of you let your phone's battery drain to nothing? If you're like me, I'll bet you obsessively make sure that you've always got plenty of battery life left. I'll bet you've even drifted into the fog of sleep and realized 'Ugh, I forgot to plug in my phone' and you drag yourself, half asleep down the hallway to plug in that precious device. Or maybe your phone sleeps next to your bedside, sending you little alerts throughout the night and certainly never dipping below 50% charge. We are attached to our devices. Probably a little too much.

But what about you? Do you recharge your personal batteries as obsessively as you do your phone? Probably not. I know I'm guilty of running on empty. But in a world with the pressures of work, school, family, health and more, it seems like charging our personal batteries should be top priority.

And that's what I love about a new year. It's a great time to take stock of where you've been, where you want to go, and how you are going to get there. And as you analyze the 'How you are going to get there' part of your new year plan, make sure you are saving time for you. Setting aside the time that you need to recharge your batteries and make sure you are ready to take on whatever life throws at you.

And if your batteries do start to dip a little, come see us. The winter weather this week has been delightful, but even in January, the flowers at the nursery are screaming Spring. Gardening is like a rapid-charger, a quick hit of delight and perspective that will have your charge at 100% in no time.

Happy Gardening,
The Kerby's Nursery Family

Garden Resolutions

With the dawn of a new year, I'll bet you are making some resolutions. Maybe you want to eat better, be healthier and get into shape. Or, maybe you want to spend more time with family and less time staring at a screen. I know I want to find more time to relax and to reduce the stress in my life. Well, we've got good news for you. You don't need to sign up for a gym or do anything crazy to make these resolutions happen. You can find all of them in the garden.

Get in Shape - There is nothing like digging holes or transporting and turning soil to get you into shape. It builds muscle and if you really get to digging, you can turn it into an aerobic activity.

Eat Healthier - You've transported and turned the soil, now plant some fresh veggies and herbs in those new planting beds. Fresh spinach and lettuce, tomatoes and peppers, greens and broccoli, whatever suits your taste, plant it. Change your eating habits with fresh, healthy food right from your backyard.

Less Screen Time and More Family Time - If you or the kids need to put the devices down and do something together, there is no better place than the garden. Plant a veggie garden together and you can share the fruits of your labors. And then, plant a butterfly garden together. Once it is planted, sit together and instead of watching the latest streaming show, watch the flying miracles of nature dance among your flowers.

Nurture your Spirit and Destress - Fresh soil on your fingers is an amazing way to unwind and allow the stress of the day to just wash away into the ground. I know for me there is something about the blooms in the garden, fruit on my trees and even something as simple as seedlings emerging that lets me recharge my batteries and gain some perspective on the world around me.

Whatever you do, resolve to have a great 2021. We look forward to sharing it with you.
