The Anticipation of . . .
by Joey Bokor
Listen

Did I get you with the title? Are you wondering: Anticipation of what? Spoiler alert, it is just this week's newsletter. Being the day after Christmas, I have anticipation on my mind, because let's face it, sometimes the waiting is the best part. When you think back on a special day, like Christmas, maybe a big family event or a movie you were looking forward to seeing, what jumps out to you as the best part. Sure, the event is amazing. You've got great memories with pictures and videos to prove it. But, even so, it's the anticipation that is the often most exciting.

It's what drives kid's crazy wondering what Santa brought them. It's the unknown in whatever we have coming up that lets our imaginations run wild wondering how it will turn out. But it's kind of the fun part, or at least it is the part that lasts for a while. Once the event or day begins, it usually flies past and leaves us the next day, like today, in disbelief that this thing we were waiting for is over.

But days like today can be a gift too. For us, Kerby's is closed for the day so that all of our staff can enjoy just a little more time with family. And it makes it a great day for rest, relaxation and reflection. I know that's what I'm doing, thinking I should probably head out for a jog to burn off all the Christmas goodies, but somehow feeling that sitting in a comfy chair, just enjoying the quiet is really what I need.

Because you know the saying 'When one door closes, another opens.' It's human nature to look to the next event, the next big thing. And a really big event is coming up in one short week. The start of a new decade. Wow! What are you going to do with it? A new year is always an opportunity for a fresh start, to make resolutions. But with a new decade, I'm feeling 10 times the energy to make something amazing happen.

And I am sure that 2020 is going to be a big year at Kerby's. It all starts with our 40th birthday. Forty years ago, when Parsons and Wheeler was just a little four-way-stop intersection, Kerby's started making gardens beautiful and forty years later, we are still at it. To help us celebrate, we are looking for gardens to feature throughout the year as a part of our birthday celebration. Click here if you have a story to share or just shoot us pictures of your garden to admin@kerbysnursery.com. You can also indulge yourself in some spring anticipation if you like, and Kim has been sneaking in a few hints on Instagram and Facebook so be sure you are following Kerby's.

Well now I'm going to go back to relaxing. See you tomorrow in the garden and get ready to make the most of a new decade. We'll be right there with you.

Happy Gardening,
